This visualization is of a classic data mining data set. The data consists
of demographic and other information about people on a mailing list for
soliciting donations for a charitable organization. Monthly mailings are made
to the list and the response is tracked. The parameters of interest to the
charity are the percent response to each mailing, the average time to respond
to a mailing, and the total receipts from a mailing. These parameters were
averaged for each mailing for each of 16 demographic categories. Each
demographic group is represented by a glyph (arrow) and the values
interpolated between monthly returns. The colors show average receipts from
each group. The visualization shows that data after February 1996 (the red spike)
has errors that were not
apparent in the tabular representation. The unusually high contributions of
the S1 and R2 demographics during mid 1995 can be investigated with the Visual
Filter tool.
